Dieting is a notion of our parents. It is time to transform the way we think about food. We have learned so much about food, movement, and mindset, and yet we continue to use our parent’s methods for weight loss. Enough is enough.
A diet is something we do to lose weight until we reach our goal. Then we stop. Rather than transforming the way we eat and making lifelong changes, diets are often designed for quick weight loss under conditions that are not livable for the future. This is not a healthy mindset. It is not sustainable.
Granted, for some, rapid weight loss diets may be needed to address immediate health risks brought on by serious weight issues. Those programs, however, should be supervised by a doctor and a nutritionist. For the rest of us, we need to change our relationship with food.
Weight loss might be part of a good health plan for you, and it might not. Many thin people in this world are unhealthy, eating junk food, and sitting all day, while many overweight people are fit, active, and eat well.
For those that want to lose weight as part of becoming healthy, it is important to do it wisely. Fad diets are not healthy. Changing our relationship with food and fitness is the best way to lose weight and obtain a healthy body over the long term. Eating a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables, healthy fats, whole grains, and lean proteins is a great starting point.
