Fierce Friends,
There is so much to say about gut health, the internet is consumed by blogs delving deep into the topic. This blog is a simple introduction to our gut and the important role it plays in our health and wellbeing.
‘The Gut’ refers to our gastrointestinal tract that begins with the mouth and ends at the anus, including the organs between such as the stomach and intestines. The health of the gut plays an essential role in our digestion, immune system, mood, brain health, energy, weight, and even heart health.
The gut contains up to 400 trillion bacteria that play an essential role in our health. As a matter of fact, the gut microbiome is considered the second brain of the body. This is a relatively new science that requires more study. We do know that more than 90% of serotonin (the happy hormone) is produced in the gut. There is definitely a gut/brain connection.
Clearly, the gut is essential to our health. The question is, how do we protect and nurture the gut?
1. Reduce stress
2. Exercise regularly
3. Eat fruits and vegetables
4. Eat nuts, seeds, and legumes
5. Eat whole grains
6. Eat pre and probiotic foods (or take supplements)
7. Avoid antibiotics when possible
Take care of your gut so it can take care of you!
Stay tuned, we’ll be adding some gut health information, soon!
